Yes it has also struck me that there is height loss from GR 646 156 and I have thought that a better route from the start might be to go via the SE corner of Yarrow reservoir to Wilcock’s Farm and meeting Saturday’s route at GR 645 161. This way seems to give a gradual climb with no significant loss of height. I will recce it.
According to my Garmin uploads, the distance from the point where our route and that of T’Y parted, going via Aggie’s staircase to the tower is 0.77 of a mile whereas T’Y’s route is 1.44 miles. The latter route, of course, provides easier running and it should be remembered that on Saturday T’Y had proceeded 0.22 of a mile beyond the point of divergence of the routes by the time we reached that point. Other than that, you have to give it to T’Y that he is going pretty well at the moment!
Just as a matter of interest, the total outing on Saturday gave in excess of 2000 feet of ascent / descent.
