Day 4

Up the Coledale Valley past the old mine and on to Hopegill Head, Whiteside at the end of the ridge before returning over Grisedale Pike.   One side of  the classic Coledale Horseshoe.

Day 5

Our last day and a bit of a disappointment as we drove to Braithwaite in dense cloud to climb out of the Coledale Valley again.   Today we would turn turn back towards Braithwaite on the ridge opposite Grisedale Pike, to traverse Outerside and the ridge beyond, to give us a shortish outing before travelling home.   The dense air in the valley clung to our bodies with no apparent prospect of the sunshine of the previous days...  and then something magic happened and we climbed out of the clag to witness a classic Lakeland inversion just as spectacular as that we encountered on Christmas Eve 2006.     Most people can go a lifetime and not see such a spectacular show - we did indeed consider ourselves to have been so very, very fortunate to have had a week like this, and this was the icing on the cake.

Looking across the valley to Grisedale Pike, where we had been yesterday along with a few hundred others!
